Nude study from the Bay Ridge Storefront drawing session

This is a drawing done in an evening... didn't quite get the curve of the leg right and wished I'd started drawing a little further up on paper... but overall I'm happy with results!

"Debra" at the finish line

Here is latest progress of "Debra" almost done (about 95%) am happy with results... I liken the process of painting a portrait to a pregnancy... it has a gestation period... and like a baby ready to be born it is born.

Here is a drawing of a young man who posed for us last Wednesday evening at the Bay Ridge Storefront Portrait drawing workshop.

Here is drawing of a young girl... she has a natural beauty and I can imagine her in a nineteenth century painting, that pensive look, those full lips... these are my impressions.

Store Front Drawings

Here is a model I sketched last Wed at Bay Ridge's Storefront portrait drawing session... kinda looks like a model from an old pulp fiction novel... very retro.

Portrait of "Debra" in progress

Here is a painting I've been working on... I still have a little bit to go... tone down some of the flesh tones etc.  It has been a slow process but I'm learning alot from it... learning to look and not prejudge.  Will post finished painting soon.

More from subway series

Subway Series

Here are some drawings I completed on the subway... something my beloved art teacher Irwin Greenberg encouraged all his student's to do. He always said... "you are a sketchbook with a person attached to it." And so I am trying to keep up with my subway sketches.

Store Front Drawings continued

This is finished drawing started two weeks ago, I worked it out as much as I could for a two week study. Below is a detail of the hand, comments greatly encouraged.

Store Front Drawings continued

Here is detail of hand on model... I had a hard time working this out, but think it is convincing after all.  There was quite a bit of foreshortening in the upper hand, more so I think on the actual model... but it is progress for me.

Store Front Drawings

Here is a drawing I started at Bay Ridge's Store Front drawing workshop.  I started out doing a watercolor and worked on that for two weeks.  Unhappy with the results, I decided to do a study in graphite.  I like the composition... I think it suits the model's body type... i.e., angular.  I'll finish up next week and post here.

"Brighton Lights"

Align Left

This is a painting I finished in November 2008. It is from a photo I took out at the Brighton Beach train station. It was a gorgeous summer night and the sky was that beautiful blue that I love. I think I captured it the way I wanted to.
